Soft sage is the quietest of the Roseto colorways, and the embossing is what keeps it from being plain. Pressed relief under a pale green glaze gives a plate something to look at without a printed pattern competing with the food on top of it. Twelve stoneware pieces serve four: 10.75-inch dinner plates, 8.5-inch accents, 14-ounce bowls, both machines cleared.
Green that cooks well
Sage flatters the food people photograph by accident, which is to say roast vegetables, bread, and anything with a browned crust on it. It is also one of the few colors that holds up across the calendar, working with spring produce in April and with a braise in November.
Three shapes, four of each
The service breaks down as four dinner plates, four accent or salad plates, and four all-purpose bowls at 2.5 inches deep. That trio covers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with nothing extra added to inflate the piece count toward a bigger number printed on the box.
How embossed stoneware ages
Pressed patterns have nothing to fade, and a mid-tone glaze does not show the gray cutlery marks that collect on white ware. Barring an accident on a tile floor, this is a set likely to look much the same in five years as it does coming out of the packaging.
