Flight came out of the era that gave furniture its tapers and curves, and the handles still show it: flowing lines, no corners, a profile that looks drawn in one stroke. It is also deliberately light, which is a divisive quality in flatware and a loved one among people who dislike heavy forks. Twenty pieces make four five-piece settings.
Mid-century lines, current table
The sculptural profile dates the pattern to the 1950s, but it has aged better than most of what sat beside it. Plain curves do not belong to a decade the way applied ornament does, so the set works with modern stoneware about as readily as with the dishes it was originally drawn for.
Light weight is a choice
This is a light-weight pattern and makes no secret of it. Some people read heft as quality; others find a heavy fork tiring across a long meal and prefer a piece that nearly disappears in the hand. Flight sits firmly in the second camp, and the 18/0 steel keeps it durable at that mass.
Care this pattern asks for
Dishwasher safe, with conditions worth following: do not soak the pieces, rinse soon after use when food has been acidic or salty, avoid contact with salt water, and dry everything before it goes in the drawer. Standing water, hard water especially, is what wears at a finish over years.
