Sometimes the drawer needs exactly one thing, and it is a proper serving fork. Chapman sells it that way: one piece, 8.9 inches long, stamped heavy in 18/0 stainless steel and polished to a mirror. Buy it to close the gap in a set that never included one, or to keep a fork that never gets drafted into place-setting duty.

What one fork is for

Boxed flatware sets rarely include a serving fork, so the job falls to a dinner fork too short to reach the middle of a platter. This one reaches. The tines hold a slice of roast steady while the knife works, and the heavy stamping means the handle does not flex when something heavy comes off the board.

Mirror polish where guests see it

Serving pieces sit out through the whole meal, so the finish on them does more visible work than the finish on a teaspoon. Chapman leaves the handle unornamented and bright, which lets the fork rest beside a patterned service without arguing with it. The polish comes back with a cloth after the machine.

One piece, no ceremony

The 18/0 stainless is dishwasher safe, so the fork goes in with the plates and comes out ready for the next platter. Single serving pieces are also the sane way to build a serving drawer slowly: add the fork now, add the ladle the year the gravy boat appears.
