Wallingford takes the linear route. Where most cut glass goes for radiating starbursts, this set runs straight lines down the decanter and the four accompanying glasses, which reads closer to architecture than to heirloom crystal. The glasses are low and wide at 3.75 inches tall and 3.5 across, the proportions of a rocks glass. Dishwasher safe throughout.
Lines instead of starbursts
Faceted cut glass throws light in every direction, which can look busy on a shelf. Straight lines do something quieter: they catch light in bands and give the piece vertical emphasis, so the decanter reads tall and composed. It is the difference between a bar cart that looks inherited and one that looks chosen.
The decanter and its four
A decanter without matching glasses is an ornament. Selling the five together means the pour and the vessel it lands in share a design, which is most of what makes serving whiskey at home feel like an occasion rather than a refill. Four glasses also sets the size of the gathering: a small one.
Low glasses, steady on a table
At 3.75 inches tall and 3.5 across, these are almost as wide as they are high, a shape that resists being knocked over and sits comfortably in the hand. The low profile also means the cut lines are visible from above, which is the angle you actually see a glass from on a side table.
