Organic Shades is the stoneware line with the earthy, undyed-looking glazes, and oatmeal is its quietest one. The set covers two shapes at once: a round bowl at 9.84 by 9.72 inches holding 44 ounces, and a long tray at 12.99 by 6.69. Both pieces are stoneware, and both go into the dishwasher and the microwave.
Bowl and tray, one glaze
Serving pieces bought one at a time never quite match, and mismatched servers show more than mismatched plates because they sit in the middle of the table. Buying the pair settles that question. The round and the long rectangle between them cover dip and crackers, salad and bread, olives and flatbread.
What 44 ounces holds
Forty-four ounces is a shade under a quart and a half: a salad for four, a tray of roasted vegetables tipped out of the pan, or enough pasta for a weeknight table. The bowl is wide rather than deep at nearly ten inches across, so a serving spoon reaches the bottom without excavation.
Oatmeal next to everything else
The glaze is close enough to neutral to sit beside white dinnerware and warm enough to keep a table from looking clinical. Food supplies the color on a serving piece anyway; a muted finish lets the greens and the roast carry it. It also will not date the way a strong pattern does.
